Bayyani Theatre presents With You Always

A South African proverb says: “Money can’t talk, but it can make lies look true.”

First performed in May 2015 at the Simpkins Lee Theatre in Oxford, With You Always looks at western development investment in the African continent. Inspired by the book entitled ‘Aid, NGOs and the Realities of Women’s Lives: A Perfect Storm’, edited by Tina Wallace and Fenella Porter – research associates of IGS, Oxford. The play explores the dilemmas from the stories told in the book revolving around development aid and ”International NGOs navigating changes that challenge their role and legitimacy, their values and their overall purpose”.

Four women and two men –  all committed to “Overseas Aid” in an unnamed African country, doing no harm must be the easiest thing in the world, right?

The lives of 5 characters intertwine and questions cause confrontations that reveal the dangerous, complex, disturbing and sometimes humorous, layers of the lived experience of “Overseas Aid.”  A far cry from the neat, sentimental stories often told in fundraising telethons.

Ayesha Casely-Hayford, plays Dambisa – A local NGO employee.
