Designer Focus – KZN Fashion Council

Here at Africa Fashion, we are firm believers in commerce over charity. Naturally there are times when we all need to pull together to help fellow humans in a difficult spot, but – in the long term – there’s nothing stronger than a genuine economic uplift in a region to help its people. The KwaZuzu Natal (KZN) Fashion Council provides a serious boost for designers in South Africa and its support was very apparent at AFWL 2015.

Formed by the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, the KZN Fashion Council is dedicated to supporting and upliftiing the design and fashion sector of KwaZulu-Natal.

Specifically to ensure that the number of designers that receive support from the Council grows each year. How many designers around the world would like that level of support from their government? The KZN Fashion Council is determined to equip its designers to become competitive on both a national and a global scale.

Here are some of the best creations from  KZN’s Blossom Handmade and Rooi Rok Bokkie at AFWL, courtesy of Africa Fashion’s Tony Smith.
