Handcrafted art from Gabon – presented by Lisiane Ndong

At the recent Africa Utopia event at Festival Hall on London’s South Bank, we were really impressed by the broad range of African artisans that came to present their creations. One stall really grabbed our attention and we soon found ourselves in conversation with Nilare founder, Lisiane Ndong from Gabon.  She accepted our invitation to visit the Africa Fashion studios with her latest designs.

Africa Fashion is dedicated to showcasing new and original talent from across all of the 55 countries that make up the continent. Situated on the West coast of Central Africa, Gabon achieved independence in 1960 and now has a population of close to 1.5 million people – almost half of which are concentrated in the capital Libreville, situated on the coast.

Lisiane Ndong is a designer with a love of creativity – as well as a strong ethical spirit – and it’s these two traits that have combined perfectly to create, Nilare.

In this exclusive interview, Lisiane explains how she works with craftsmen in Gabon to create a unique range. Remember to let us know what you think over on Facebook.

It’s great to see brands starting to succeed, when they have put ‘ethical business practices’ at the heart of everything they do.

Materials are chosen to enhance the design and, where possible, in a range of colours.

Overall, the range is visually very appealing – with prices starting as low as £30 for a unique objet d’art.

We encourage you to visit her site to see the full range.
