Anyone who’s seen the news in recent times will know just how much devastation has been caused by rival factions in the Congo. It is renown for being one of the most dangerous places on Earth for women. But change is happening and you can be part of that change by supporting Passion For Motherland. We spoke with founder, Lisette Mibo, to find out more.
“Now in its 3rd year, we will be filling Hackney Town Hall on Friday 21st August with a festival of African fashion, music and poetry”, Lisette told us. “We spent this weekend with our media partner, Africa Fashion, at their studio in North London – as well as preparing 30 models for the main catwalk show – so it’s going to be very special!”.
“It was almost 10 years ago that Dr Denis Mukwege founded the Panzi Hospital as a response to the devastating war that affected his community”, Lisette explained. “I am determined to use my voice, my talent and any platform I can find to advocate on behalf of the children and vulnerable families of my Motherland”.
If you live near London and have a passion for fashion, we urge you to support this event. Just £10 will not only buy you a great evening’s worth of entertainment – you will also be helping to restore the lives of young girls who have been devastated by trauma.
Really, could you buy anything more valuable with £10? Buy a ticket for yourself, one for a friend and have fun for a good cause!
As well as Lisette and her team of models from the Black Afro Queens Agency in the video, here are some slides that will give you a better idea of what’s going on and what Lisette’s organisation is trying to do to help.
